Centering is one of four factors graders score (with corners, edges, surface). This estimates the front-centering ceiling only.

What is card centering?
Centering measures how evenly the image sits within the card's borders. Graders express it as two ratios — left/right and top/bottom — where 50/50 is perfect. A card printed slightly off-center might be 60/40, meaning one border is 60% of the combined width and the other 40%. Centering is one of the four factors that decide a card's grade, alongside corners, edges, and surface.
How to measure card centering
Measure the inner border on all four sides in the same unit (millimeters or pixels both work — the ratio is what matters). Enter the left and right borders to get horizontal centering, and the top and bottom borders to get vertical centering. The calculator reports both ratios and the estimated grade ceiling.
PSA centering tolerances
These are PSA's published centering limits. A card must meet the front tolerance to reach each grade:
| Grade | Front (max) | Back (max) |
|---|---|---|
| PSA 10 — Gem Mint | 55/45 | 75/25 |
| PSA 9 — Mint | 60/40 | 90/10 |
| PSA 8 — NM-MT | 65/35 | 90/10 |
| PSA 7 — Near Mint | 70/30 | 90/10 |
| PSA 6 — EX-MT | 80/20 | 90/10 |
How accurate is this estimate?
This tool estimates the front-centering ceiling — the best grade your centering would allow. Your final grade can still come in lower if corners, edges, or surface have issues, and graders measure to fractions of a millimeter. Use it to screen cards before you spend on grading. For a full measured analysis from a photo, Midpoint does it automatically.
